Hello, this is London calling, or

london_fan if you prefer full names.

I'm the only artist staffing the

house_of_london at the moment. I love to indulge in nerdy graphics and handicraft projects (rumor has it I write fanfiction and provide layout help, too), but sadly my busy life keeps me from creating fanart most of the time, so updates here tend to pop up quite sporadically.

If you're lucky, one day I'll actually get around to making up for my lack of regular updates with a (members only) bonus, e.g. a request post. Maybe. Please don't hold your breath, though.

Well, since

sireesanwar and

trekchic asked me nicely to share my colouring process and weren't deterred by the fact that I use GIMP instead of Photoshop, I tried to compile some sort of tutorial. Unfortunately I wasn't able to recreate the exact steps on my pre-existing icons, because I quite often flatten and merge layers and don't save the exact settings of the tools used. However, there are some steps that I follow almost always, so I simply created a new icon for this tutorial, recording the whole process in detail. Hopefully this tutorial is helpful for you. Enjoy!

Oh look, who’s still alive! I just noticed that it has been almsot two years since my last entry here... *watches tumbleweed rolling by* Well, RL has kept me busy, but recent developments in fandom (namely Star Trek Picard promotion taking off) have prompted me into making some new icons. ( Let’s start this entry with some rambling about the newest changes LJ implemented, namely the new site navigation menu. )

Well, I’d like to figure out how to deal with this issue in the future (if I can’t find a way to customize the new navigation menu with CSS eventually). The easiest "solution" probably would be to never ever again code layouts that need a fixed margin-top to work. In that case LJ could add or detract all the space they need for their menu bar(s) on the respective pages as needed and the layout would still look fine. However, I love to play around with images as fake headers instead of just using some boring stationary .headerimage. Therefore I’d like to know how much of an issue this actually is for you. ( So, could you please take a couple of seconds for this poll? Thank you! )

Oh dear, who would have guessed that the day would come for my community to host a contribution to Red Pants Monday? Not me, that's for sure! While I've certainly enjoyed some contributions to "Red Pants Monday" on the interwebs, I've never given much thought to it… until quite recently when my Gran and I had a very funny discussion about the seventies and y-fronts, like these. Considering that I've always felt strongly about dolls having complete sets of clothes, including underwear, it was time to get my Sherlock and John 1:6 scale figures some pants. Sadly neither my Gran nor I felt capable to recreate authentic teeny-weeny y-fronts for John, but fortunately there are wonderful people out there who can accomplish the impossible! Take a look for yourself:

Yesterday the first batch of "ingredients" for my next creative project arrived here and I'm quite happy with them overall! Any idea what this project might be?

Oh look, I made some non-digital hands-on art this time! To be honest, I haven't done any proper pencil drawings in ages. In fact it has been so long that I don't even remember how long (approximately 15 to 18 years)! Apparently all the inspiration needed to overcome my 'drawer's block' was some time off work,

If you take a look at the text icons here and think that

london_fan finally must have lost her mind completely, I strongly recommend reserving final judgement until you have watched the following two Sherlock parodies: Original Sherlock parody - Oklahomo and New Sherlock parody - Mind Phallus. In fact, I recommend watching them anyway, because then, and only then, these quotes will make sense… well, as much sense as they'll ever make! *ahem* Seeing these lines written out in

Oh, look,

london_fan made more Sherlock S3 icons. You can thank my new life motto: "An icon a day keeps the doctor away (unless the doctor in question is John Watson, of course)." Life and work are quite stressful at the moment, so I try to relieve tension by making at least one icon a day (time permitting). Listening to the official soundtrack is also quite helpful. Although someone should conduct a study about how certain tracks from the official S3 soundtrack influence my icons, especially #17 and #18! If you spot two icons similar to one from the last batch, it's because I found slightly different and better promo pictures of that shot in the meantime. Anyway, enjoy! Once again, I chose icons that don't give away any plot details for the preview, but...

To be honest, I'm still recovering from the first two episodes of season three and I'm not even close to having fully processed "The Sign of Three" yet, but making icons actually helps me doing so. There are so many details that hit home fully when you're looking at screencaps. As always I'm in absolute awe of the cast's wonderful acting skills and the on-screen chemistry in play here. It was a pleasure to make these icons. I'll surely make more in the future, but for now I'll just share the first 30 ones with you. The preview is as spoiler-free as possible, only featuring icons that shouldn't give away any plot details. Enjoy!

Yoo-hoo! I can hardly believe it myself, but you still get this icon post in 2013 (read: before Sherlock 3x01 will most likely render me completely incapable of dealing with anything. The Christmas special alone gave me all the feelings, so what will those 90 minutes do to me?! Hello there, fellow London fans and Sherlockians!

Today I bring you teeny-tiny goodies for all your custom layout needs. The following 16x16 tinicons can be used to replace the boring LJ standard userheads in front of the usernames (

london_fan) and communities (

house_of_london). Of course they also make nifty icon replacements in your browser sidebar if your settings/add-ons allow these customizations, just saying... :)

Since LJ changed the source code a while ago there are still a lot of screwed-up custom layouts with the LJ standard userhead overlapping and shifting around the custom ones. Therefore I'll add a small tutorial with the latest code to implement custom userheads for anyone who might need it.

As you all know (even if it's just because of Google's doodle for the occasion), today would have been Jim Henson's 75th birthday. He was a brilliant puppeteer, but is probably best known as the creator of The Muppets.
